CRINUM LATIFOLIUM IN PROSTATE DISEASE
Crinum latifolium is a traditional leafy,
Vietnamese herbal remedy which has been used since ancient
times in Vietnam.
It is currently being used in Vietnam for a
variety of disorders including benign prostatic hypertrophy,
prostatitis and adenoma.
Patients looking for scientific proof of the
effectiveness of Crinum Latifolium in benign prostatic
hypertrophy may be disappointed.
A search of the PUB MED database using
the search term crinum latifolium returned only 3 papers, none
of which had anything to do with the prostate.
The marketing for Crinum refers to studies
done in Vietnam and which were apparently published in
Vietnamese health journals.
The Vietnamese study apparently looked at the
treatment of more than 500 men with BPH with Crinum. The
International Hospital in Vietnam apparently reported that 92.6
% of the patients had good results with minimal side
effects.
Crinum latifolium is known to contain
eleven different alkaloids and amino acids. Crinum latifolium
also contains steroid saponins and antioxidants, supports
cellular immunity, and has been researched as being an
effective T-lymphocyte activator.
Further studies should be done to document
the proposed benefit of Crinum Latifolium in prostate
conditions.
