ICD CODES FOR PROSTATE CANCER

ICD codes are an abbreviation for the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems. The ICD codes are published by the World Health Organization and are used world wide to monitor morbidity and mortality statistics, reimbursement systems, and other types of medical data collection.

The ICD codes are revised periodically. The most current version is ICD-10 which was endorsed at the 43rd World Health Assembly in 1992 and came into use in 1994.

ICD-11 is scheduled for 2011 and will incorporate Web 2.0 principles.

Annual minor updates and 3 year major updates are also published by the WHO.

The World Health Organization took over the responsibility for the ICD at its creation in 1948 when the Sixth Revision, which included causes of morbidity for the first time, was published.
